Accessibility
Bourdon Building
- The Garnethill Campus sits on a very steep hill. People with mobility disabilities may require assistance and are advised to contact the School prior to arrival +44(0) 141 353 4500, [email protected].
- Kerbs have been lowered in the streets surrounding the School and parking restrictions are in operation. Unfortunately the School does not have parking available for visitors.
- Entry to the Bourdon building is from Renfrew St. There is a public footpath up to a ramp that leads to the Bourdon building doors on Renfrew St.
- The Bourdon building magnetic front door lock will be deactivated and open for wheelchair users. Door widths are accessible for wheelchair users.
- The ground floor is level with no trip hazards.
- The Bourdon Lecture Theatre (Ground floor) is accessible by stairs only. There are no wheelchair spaces in the theatre. Induction Loop present.
- The Bourdon Lecture Theatre (First floor) is accessible by lift. There is wheelchair user space in the theatre. Induction Loop present.
- The Bourdon Board Room (First floor) is accessible by lift. There is no fixed seating in this room so there is space for wheelchair users.
- Door widths are accessible for wheelchair users, however doors are not power assisted.
Accessible Lifts
- There are 2 lifts in the Bourdon building in the centre of the building.
- The lift is accessible and is located on the ground floor to the left of the entry gates.
- Entry barriers will be open on the day of the event.
Accesible Toilets
- Second Floor – Located immediately across as you come out of the lift or to the left as you come out of the lift, through the doors, turn right, down the hall and to the right.
Reid Building
- Entry to the Reid building is from Scott St. There is a public footpath up to a ramp that leads to the Reid building doors on Renfrew St.
- The Reid building magnetic front door lock will be deactivated and open for wheelchair users. Door widths are accessible for wheelchair users.
- The ground floor reception desk is lowered to wheelchair level at one end for enquiries.
- The ground floor is level with no trip hazards.
- Seating is available for staff and visitors with mobility issues or for the elderly/infirm.
- The Reid Lecture Theatre is located on the basement level, accessible by lift. There is currently work installed on this level but there is space to manoeuvre in a wheelchair and cables are covered. If you enter the lecture theatre from the higher door there is plenty of space towards the back of the room.
- The Reid Refectory is located on the 2nd floor, accessible by lift. The refectory is straight down the corridor from the lift.
Accessible Lifts
- There is an accessible lift located on the ground floor to the right of the main reception desk.
- Entry barriers will be open on the day of the event.
- Double width access barriers are accessible for wheelchair users.
Accessible Toilets
- Basement Floor – Located immediately to the right and in the corner as you come out of the lift.
- Ground Floor – Located to the right-hand side as you enter through the main doors of the Reid building. The toilet is situated on the right-hand side in the corridor space between the Grab and Go and the Windows on the Mack.
- Second Floor – Located immediately to the left as you come out of the lift.
Stow Building
- Entry to the Stow building is from Scott St. There is a public footpath parallel to Shamrock St which leads to the front doors.
- The Stow building magnetic front door lock will be deactivated and open for wheelchair users. Door widths are accessible for wheelchair users.
- Unfortunately, the ground floor reception desk is not lowered to wheelchair level for enquiries.
- The ground floor is level with no trip hazards.
- Seating is available for staff and visitors with mobility issues or for the elderly/infirm.
- Door widths are accessible for wheelchair users, however doors are not power assisted.
- Entry barriers will be open on the day of the event.
- A double width access barrier is accessible for wheelchair users.
Accessible Lifts
- There is one lift in the Stow building, through the doors to the left from the main entrance.
Accessible Toilets
- Ground Floor – Located through 3 sets of doors to the left as you enter the building.
- Fifth Floor – Located to the left as you come out of the lift and through 2 sets of doors.
Quiet Room
- There is a quiet room on the 3rd floor that has keypad access with a code provided by Student Support. If you would like access to the quiet room please ask in advance of your arrival so that we can get the code.
Getting here
To get to the Glasgow School of Art, you can follow these general directions:
1. If you are arriving by air, the nearest airport is Glasgow Airport (GLA). From there, you can take a taxi or use public transportation to reach the city center.
2. From Glasgow city center, the Glasgow School of Art is located on Renfrew Street, which is easily accessible by various modes of transportation.
3. If you are using public transportation, the nearest subway station to the Glasgow School of Art is Cowcaddens Station. From there, it’s a short walk to the campus. You can check the subway map and schedules on the official website of the Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT).
4. If you prefer to use buses, there are several bus stops near the Glasgow School of Art. You can use the official website of First Glasgow or the SPT website to find the most convenient bus routes and schedules.
5. If you plan to drive, there are parking facilities available near the Glasgow School of Art, although parking in the city center can be limited and expensive. It’s recommended to use public transportation if possible.
